The Butter Grip was invented by Tina M. Butterfield and developed by ARK Therapeutic. The grip was designed to encourage appropriate finger positioning whilst writing. Proper grip is important for writing legibility and also encourages fine motor dexterity.
The grip works through acting as a tactile cue for fingers to hug the grip, and the fingertips rest just below the grip on the pencil. When used in this position, the Butter Grip provides support to the finger muscles and can assist in decreasing hyperextension.
